Quatro2 Released

I’ve released Quatro2.  I changed the name from ‘08 as it’s December

Hope you guys like it and please throw some feedback my way.  I’m going to start on the next map tomorrow.   It’s been a good learning experience catching up with the new functions of the new Unreal engine after all these years.

Big thanks to all those you gave me feedback.  I hope I’ve remembered you all in the readme.

New UT3 Models

In fact there’s lots of new stuff coming out recently.  It’s hard to keep up with everything.  Plus the community is beginning to get that spark back.  People are beginning to re-install UT3 and finding it fun with all the new stuff.

The new models can be found over at Skin City.  You can find other skin and model related stuff for UT3 there as well.  Check out this shot of EvilEngine’s latest.

How about NeoDuck’s recent map?  WAR-Tropico

I haven’t played it yet but I plan on doing so.  Time to fall in love with UT3.

The reviews are coming on and I should be able to post the CBPM3 Vol2 reviews soon.

Voting Rights

You’ve probably noticed the poll on the right hand side.  I’ve also added one to each review.  This allows you to rate the map (preferably after you’ve played it).

I’ve got stuck into the reviews of the CBP3 Vol 2 Pack.  I’m giving each map a full review and then I will give an overall score of the pack with an honorable mention of the models.

The guys over at Runestorm have released a great model pack for UT3.  These are really high quality and I would urge you to download them now.  They have also done other work for UT3.

Fancy some Gears of War objects and meshes to use for you next level design project?  Well now you can.  Over on this thread at BU forums, UX.Loki has managed to convert the assets from Gears of War so they can be used in UT3.  I think we can look forward to some more variety in the maps.

Big Job Ahead

If you were to have a quick look at the map sub page you’ll see that Icecreamyou has subbed the new CBP3 Vol2.  I’ve said I’ll review them but it will take a few days so please bear with me.  If you can’t wait for it then you can download it here at the CBP3 site.

Icecreamyou has also got his own site.  On that site is an extensive list of UED3 and 4 tutorials.  These should answer many questions about the editor and map design in general.

I’ve posted a poll on the right hand side.  Tell me what you think of this site.  I’d really appreciate it

Reviews On The Way

I’m currently in the process of writing some reviews. and will post them within the next day or so.  There has been some quality releases recently.  People seem to be getting to grips with the new engine.  Hourence’s The Ball: Oztoc and The Haunted are the two more original mods of late.  Try them both out.

Why not give mapping a go?  Go on try it.  Just set your sights on simple achievements at first and build on them slowly.  It is a steep learning curve especially with the new engine but the results are worth it.  Remember it’s not a race.  Unreal will be around for a long time yet.

Speaking of which it’s the 10 year anniversary coming up.  Way not make something for UT3 community to celebrate.

Roots Part 2

Pod casts, hmm (see comments for yesterdays post).  Never done them before but an interesting thought.  I would be a cool way to see in 10 years of Unreal.  Thanks for the offer Minister Fish.  Deffinitly worth thinking about.

These are screens I’ve taken tonight of the game that started it all.  Just the journey out of the Vortex Rikers prison ship.  Remember that this game is nearly 10 years old.  I remember having to turn the settings down when I first played it .  I had a P3 500 with 256 ram and that nasty onboard Intel graphics chip.  The game came with the voodoo 3 card I bought but thanks to Hewlett Packard snipping off and then soldering the jumpers on the motherboard I couldn’t install it.  Self taught PC building soon followed .

Remember graphics like this were bleeding edge at the time.  I would love to see this re-done in today’s engine.
